Artist Statement
I enjoy painting with strong composition, saturated color, and a dash of texture. I do not have any prejudgement as to what a finished painting should "look" like in the end, but rather what it should feel like.
I prefer to paint images where the subject is still, but the colors and textures have movement.
During the process of painting a picture I do a lot of experimenting , looking for a new approach to a painting. This shows up most in the way I portray the relationship between the subject and its surroundings.
The Masters, the colors of Camille Pissarro, the light of Monet, the movement of Van Gogh, and the classical beauty of Michelangelo, inspire me.
Bio
Brian was encouraged to paint with oils in 2000 after he did a few paintings “just for fun.” After 3 inspiring trips to New Zealand and 1 to Europe he dedicated more time to his painting. He enjoys painting various subjects, but often returns to florals, due to his love of plants. Brian has lived in Prescott for almost 9 years, but also spends 3 months out of the year in New Zealand where he paints and has several pieces in private collection. He has just started to present his paintings for public viewing and plans to build his experience by entering works in future contest and shows in the U.S. and New Zealand.
Future Goals:
In 2007 Brian was encouraged to paint the human form, focusing on various parts of the male body. He believes the male form is starting a new renaissance and is being viewed again with fresh perspective. In May 2007 he began working with several models and is producing a number of paintings in 2008 reflecting this point of view.
